altc2013 conference online platform is now open!

September 2, 2013 in Conference Information, Technical

The altc2013 conference online platform is now open!

If you’ve attended previous ALT conferences you might notice some differences. As the old platform (crowdvine) is no longer supported we’ve moved to an entirely open source site which uses WordPress. A number of the crowdvine features have been maintained (electronic programme, delegate profiles, talk discussion, etc.), with the addition of some new functionality. In particular the conference Reader and newsletter are designed to capture and distribute as much of the conference activity from 3rd party sites such as Twitter, Google+ as well as delegate blog posts.

If you have a blog or want to start one for the conference registering this in your profile page and including the text ‘altc2013’ will mean it will automatically appear in the Reader and be distributed to anyone signed up for the conference newsletter.

Here we have some suggested actions. If you are feeling lost there is an conference online platform orientation session at 12:30pm tomorrow (3rd September). You can find out more/register here  or join the session directly via http://collab8.adobeconnect.com/altc2013/ (a recording will be made available if you can’t attend the session Here’s a recording of the session). You can find out more about ALT LIVE sessions here (including setup instructions).

Suggested actions

  1. Login to the site and fill in as much or as little of your profile (edit your profile). You have full control over visibility of the information you submit).
  2. Explore the Settings tab in your profile particularly the ‘Email Notifications’.
  3. Have a look through the programme and find sessions you are interested in following (over the next couple of days we’ll be adding session chairs and authors as moderators to these sessions).

Lost? Help?

While we have done quite a bit of testing, you might come across bugs or problems. There is a big feedback button on the site and this is the best way to give us feedback. We’ll update the FAQs with common questions & answers and try to assist you as quickly as we can.

If you can’t access the site or use the feedback button, then you can also email helpdesk@alt.ac.uk.
