Thank you for participating in #altc2013

September 12, 2013 in Conference Information

With three interesting and busy conference days behind us, we would like to thank you for participating!

There is already a lot of information already online to make following up speakers and sessions easier, but we will be sending out a follow up email to all participants early next week with more details and links to recorded sessions.

For now, we hope you have had a good journey back and we look forward to seeing you again next year #altc2014!

Hello and welcome to day 2 #altc2013!

September 10, 2013 in Conference Information

If you are joining us today – welcome! If you have made it through an exciting and engaging first day, welcome back!
Today we have a real focus on research, with sessions highlighted throughout the programme, starting at 9.00am with an introduction to research day. We are also showcasing the finalists (and later announcing the winners!) of the Learning Technologist of the Year Award, so if you’d like to know more, start your day in the Conference Theatre.
To get the most out of today’s programme, here’re some helpful tips:
  1. It’s a full day, so plan ahead using the online programme
  2. There’s a lot going on using the #altc2013 Twitter hashtag, so if you haven’t done so yet, join in
  3. From 2.45pm – 4pm there is dedicated time to network and visit the exhibition, giving you time outside sessions unless you are attending our AGM (which is open to all)
Last, a note on our Gala Evening, celebrating 20 years of ALT – and which will kick off with drinks and some anniversary treats from 6.30pm in the main conference centre with drinks. Please note the earlier starting time than is printed in the conference guide and don’t miss out on the presentation of the award or celebrations.

Welcome to the first day of #altc2013

September 9, 2013 in Conference Information

We’re excited to welcome you to the 20th annual conference of the Association for Learning Technology. Today we welcome participants for all three days, those participating for today only and those of you who are joining us online.

If you are just getting started or if you are a seasoned participant, here are a few helpful hints and tips:

  1. Make sure you have registered your profile in the altc2013 conference platform  (login and then choose ‘My Profile’ from the navigation menu)
  2. Set your email preference to receive this daily newsletter (found in My Profile > Settings > Notifications)
  3. Join us on Twitter for #altc2013 and register your blog
  4. If you have any questions or problems, come to the conference helpdesk near the main entrance of the conference venue or email us at

If you are reading this while you are queuing to register, please be patient as we expect registration to be busy this morning, with over 400 delegates registering. If you’re bored, get to know those around you – it’s time to network with those whose surname started with a similar letter….

We have a special focus on Further Education, skills and adult learning today and we hope that you can join at least one of the sessions highlighted in the programme (Visit the online programme and filter for Focus on FE/Adult/Skills).

We hope you enjoy your day today and that you find everything you need, including a really varied and engaging exhibition.

Finally, if this is your first time at our annual conference, please come and meet some of us at the ALT stand in the main foyer!

altc2013 conference online platform is now open!

September 2, 2013 in Conference Information, Technical

The altc2013 conference online platform is now open!

If you’ve attended previous ALT conferences you might notice some differences. As the old platform (crowdvine) is no longer supported we’ve moved to an entirely open source site which uses WordPress. A number of the crowdvine features have been maintained (electronic programme, delegate profiles, talk discussion, etc.), with the addition of some new functionality. In particular the conference Reader and newsletter are designed to capture and distribute as much of the conference activity from 3rd party sites such as Twitter, Google+ as well as delegate blog posts.

If you have a blog or want to start one for the conference registering this in your profile page and including the text ‘altc2013’ will mean it will automatically appear in the Reader and be distributed to anyone signed up for the conference newsletter.

Here we have some suggested actions. If you are feeling lost there is an conference online platform orientation session at 12:30pm tomorrow (3rd September). You can find out more/register here  or join the session directly via (a recording will be made available if you can’t attend the session Here’s a recording of the session). You can find out more about ALT LIVE sessions here (including setup instructions).
